Shot down on 16-Aug-44 in B-17 43-38000 while serving as Engineer/Top Turret Gunner. Aircraft was attacked by fighters and set on fire which caused the bomb load to detonate and the aircraft disintegrated in mid-air. Remains of the aircraft fell near Lehna, Germany. Killed in Action (KIA). MACR 8181
