According to David Greene, navigator, this photo was taken at Biggs Army Air Base, El Paso , TX., on March 29th, 1944 while in the process of forming the combat crew. Standing, left to right, David Greene, John Bonifant cp, Norbert Wick p, Roger Knierim left-waist gunner. Kneeling in front of Knierim is Palmer Taylor radio operator. Roger Knierim attended Center Street Elementary School then the Mentor High School, Mentor, Ohio, graduating in 1939. He enlisted in the Air Corps in March 1942 and trained as a gunner. Sent overseas, he was assigned to the 579th Bomb Squadron, 392nd Bomb Group and was a Top Turret Gunner/Engineer on the 1st Lt Norbert J. Wick crew.
