Military ROLL OF HONOURKilled in Action (KIA) - crashed near Euskirchen in P-47 42-27322.
"On 11 October 1944 56 US FG, stationed at Boxted, Essex/England, had the mission to escort bombers during a raid on Cologne. Near Euskirchen the flight started an orbit to the right during which the aircraft of 2/Lt Julius De Mayo was lost from view No radio contact was made with him. DeMayo crashed near Osburg and was killed.
His residence had been in California, and after the war his remains were transferred to US Military Cemetery at St. Avold in Lorraine".
