"On 11 October 1944 56 US FG, stationed at Boxted, Essex/England, had the mission to escort bombers during a raid on Cologne. Near Euskirchen the flight started an orbit to the right during which the aircraft of 2/Lt Julius De Mayo was lost from view No radio contact was made with him. DeMayo crashed near Osburg and was killed".
