While serving as Engineer/Top Turret Gunner in B-17G 43-37613 on 16-Aug-44 the aircraft was attacked by Germany fighters and received severe damage near the target of Halle, Germany. The pilot managed to nurse the aircraft back to England and landed at Boreham, Essex. He was uninjured and Returned to Duty (RTD).
