Herbert W Elin Herbert W Elin UPL 60427 1st Lt. Herbert W Elin (O-767172) of 78th fighter group, 84th Squadron, killed in P-51D Mustang (44-63181 WZ-C) which crashed 7 miles North of Bassingbourn near Wimpole Hall after taking off from Duxford in the morning of January 13th 1945. Probable cause was instrument failure whilst flying in heavy cloud. Lt. Elin is buried at the Cambridge Madingley Cemetery.

Killed after taking off from Station 357 (Duxford) in a crash 7 miles North of Bassingbourn near Wimpole Hall on 13 January 1945 in P-51D Mustang 44-63181 (WZ-C).   Probable cause was instrument failure whilst flying in heavy cloud. Noted that the 84th had only recently converted from P-47 Thunderbolts.  Lt. Elin is buried at the Cambridge Madingley Cemetery
