Killed after taking off from Station 357 (Duxford) in a crash 7 miles North of Bassingbourn near Wimpole Hall on 13 January 1945 in P-51D Mustang 44-63181 (WZ-C). Probable cause was instrument failure whilst flying in heavy cloud. Noted that the 84th had only recently converted from P-47 Thunderbolts. Lt. Elin is buried at the Cambridge Madingley Cemetery
