Killed in a training accident crash 7 miles North of Bassingbourn near Wimpole Hall on 13 January 1945 in P-51D Mustang 44-63181 (WZ-C).   Probable cause was instrument failure whilst flying in heavy cloud. Noted that the 84th was in the process of converting from P-47 at the time.  Lt. Elin is buried at the Cambridge Madingley Cemetery
