1st Lt. Herbert W Elin (O-767172) of 78th fighter group, 84th Squadron, killed in P-51D Mustang (44-63181 WZ-C) which crashed 7 miles North of Bassingbourn near Wimpole Hall after taking off from Duxford in the morning of January 13th 1945. Probable cause was instrument failure whilst flying in heavy cloud. Lt. Elin is buried at the Cambridge Madingley Cemetery.
