Delivered Cheyenne 16/10/43; Vandalia 26/10/43; Des Moines 1/12/43; Denver 2/12/43; Cheyenne 11/12/43; Kearney 22/12/43; Prestwick, UK 16/1/44; Assigned 452BG Deopham Green 17/1/44; Transferred 364BS/305BG [WF-V] Chelveston 30/1/44; ex-Aalborg 22 February 1944 with John Kreigshauser, Co-pilot: Lyle Curtis, Navigator: John Humphrey, Bombardier: Melchor Hernandez, Flight engineer/top turret gunner: Harry Estabrooks, Radio Operator: Bob Mayfield, Ball turret gunner: Chas Tuttle, Waist gunner: Malcolm Williams, Waist gunner: Vito Ambrosio, Tail gunner: Maurice Robbins (10 Killed in Action), on return crashed at Endcliffe Park, Sheffield, UK; Salvaged 25 February 1944 2nd Strategic Air Depot at Little Staughton. Battle damaged on Aalborg, Denmark mission by enemy fighters and with 3 mortally wounded crew; attempted force landing in Endcliffe Park, Sheffield. 10 x KIA. MACR 15190 The crash in Endcliffe Park was witnessed by 9 year old Keith Peters, who was playing football in the park when the plane crashed, and other local people. Memorial to crew put in place on 25th anniversary (1969) funded by Sheffield branch of the RAF Association, plus 10 American Oaks (one per crewman) by Sheffield City Council. Annual remembrance ceremony attended by USAF, RAF, Royal British Legion, and civic leaders, with 75th anniversary marked by USAF/RAF flypast in honour of the crew.
