“Was named by the Layton crew after the cartoons in Collier’s magazine depicting a none too smart swabbie named “Alfred”. T/Sgt Marion H. Derey was the crew chief. “ (b24.net) The aircraft was badly damaged during a combat mission to Kiel. The pilot attempted to land, but crashed at Pretty Corner, Sheringham, Norfolk. Five crew members lost their lives. There is a memorial for the crew in the churchyard of All Saints, Upper Sheringham, dedicated on 4 January 1992.
