During assembly for Leipzig, involved in a mid-air collision with 44-6147 on 7 July 1944; crashed Withersfield, near Haverhill, Suffolk, UK, with Earl O. Anderson Jr, Co-pilot: Walter B. Shreve Jr., Navigator: Carl Hartning, Bombardier: William L. O’Leary, Flight engineer/top turret gunner: Wilmer L. Loyd, Radio Operator: John D. Sherman, Ball turret gunner: Neal W. Noland, Waist gunner: Homer J. Evans (8 Killed in Action); Tail gunner: Glen S. Hinshaw (Returned to Duty).
Salvaged 8/7/44. SWISS MISS.
