Wenatchee, WA, USA 14 December 2003 Irving Dwight Waterbury was born January 5, 1919 to Irving Ezra and Ellen (Walmsley) Waterbury in Medina, NY He attended elementary schools in Jeddo, NY and St. Petersburg, FL, and graduated from Middleport High School in Middleport, NY in 1936. He later attended Alfred University extension in Medina, NY and received his degree from Wenatchee Valley College in 1947. He also earned several college credits from San Francisco State, Chapman College and the University of California. Mr. Waterbury entered the U.S. Army in November 1942 from Dayton, Ohio as an aviation cadet and graduated as a pilot in May 1944. He was a B-24 pilot in the 8th Air Force flying from RAF Attlebridge, England until the end of the European conflict of World War II. He was awarded the Air Medal with two clusters and was separated from the service in October 1945. He married Mary Jane Tyrrell in Wenatchee on January 17, 1947. Lt. Waterbury remained in the Reserve and was recalled in June 1952 during the Korean War and served in Korea as Chief of Petroleum for the 5th Air Force during 1953 and 1954. During his career with the Air Force he served with distinction at Edwards AFB, CA; McChord AFB, WA; RAF Sculthorpe, England; March AFB, CA; Taipei, Taiwan; and with Supreme Command Atlantic, NATO in Norfolk, VA. He was the recipient of several military ribbons. He retired from the Air Force in September 1970 as Lt. Col., returning to Wenatchee with his family.
