MilitaryFlew out of Chelveston, bombing Lille, France, had 2 engines shot up. Barely landed on 2 engines outside of Lourdes on field still under construction. While flying out of Bishoa, Africa on loan to the 15th AF, went on bomb raid to Palermo, Italy. Plane hit by flak and enemy planes. . Plane exploded, blew me out, injured badly, captured. This happened on 3/22/43, my birthday.
