near Atine, Italy 16 January 1944 Hit by fire from a Bf 109 just after closing bomb bay doors. Gunner called to say they were afire. Burritt seeing the left nacelle disintegrating, ordered the gunners to bail out. He held the plan for 2-3 minutes then bailed out himself.
