According to his widow Margaret, Eugene enlisted at 18 in Louisiana.

Eugene Evans was Right Waist Gunner on a mission to Bizerte, Tunisia on 18 December 1942 and survived the crash-landing of B-17 Serial 42-5715, shot down by German fighters over Tunisia. The Co-Pilot and three other crew members were killed. No Missing Air Crew Report for the loss. In her short relation of her husband's sercice, Margaret says his neck had been broken in the North African crash and that he flew other missions after recuperating.
