Keith Warren Sutor
MilitaryKeith Sutor was Tail Gunner on B-24 #42-40747, shot down on 7 January 1944 on the mission to Ludwigshafen, Germany. Landed near Sully-la-Chapelle (Loiret Department), France and evaded capture with the help of French citizens and members of the Résistance. Went through Nibelle, Mardié, Paris. Taken in charge by the Shelburn evasion line, he and 25 other evading airmen (among them 20 Americans) was evacuated during the night of 23-24 March 1944 by Motor Gun Boat MGB 503 of the British Coastal Forces, from Sous-Kéruzeau (Brittany) on Operation "Bonaparte V". Evaded (EVD). Escape & Evasion Report E&E 536. NOTE : His WWII Draft card has him as Keith Warren Sutor (signed that way in his own hand); in the 42-40747 crew list on page 6 of MACR 1851, his first and middle names have been reversed, with Keith scrapped and replaced by Warren... All other documents have Keith W. Sutor, including the 1930 US Census for Douglas County, Kansas. Keith probably preferred to be called Warren, as his grave marker bears that surname.
