S/Sgt Walter C. Race was born 18-Jan-12 in Middletown, Orange County, New York. He was the youngest of 6 children of William Clark Race, a flagman with the Ontario & Western Railroad & his wife Rhoda L. Race (nee Gray).
He moved in Nov-34 to Pasadena, California from Middletown, Orange County, New York. And although Walter enlisted in the Army from his new home of California, he was born & raised in Orange County, New York.
Walter is buried in the Britanny American Cemetery, Basse-Normandie, France. However, his family also placed a headstone in the Race Family Plot in the Walkill Cemetery, Phillipsburg, Orange County, New York in his memory.
