"Just before 1,000 U.S. 8th Air force Boeing B-17 "Flying Fortresses" bombed Berlin, Feb. 3, 1945, these three Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighter pilots swooped down on a Luftwaffe base near the German capital, and destroyed a total of five German fighters as they were taking off to attack the approaching Fortresses.
