Paul F Baum

Military ROLL OF HONOUR

An Amateur Baseball player before entering military service in January 1943 with the Army Air Force at the Fort Hayes reception center in Columbus, Ohio.



On November 15, 1943, Baum was sent to England with the 66th Bomb Squadron of the 44th Bomb Group, Eighth Air Force. Flying missions over Europe from Shipdham Airfield in Norfolk, 2/Lt. Baum was bombardier on a Consolidated B-24 Liberator.



He suffered wounds on a mission to Oschersleben/Helmstedt in Germany on February 20, 1944, when flak injured his head and neck.

Near Mont-de-Marsan, France 27 March 1944 - 27 March 1944 Killed in Action. On 27 Mar 1944, B-24J 42-109836, damaged by flak on a mission to Mont-de-Marsan airfield, attempted to reach Spain but was forced to ditch into the Channel. His body was recovered from the sea the next day.
