401st Bomb Group, Mission No. 234, 22 Mar 1945, Barmingholten. Briefing took place at 0400 hours, with Lead and Low Squadron ships being loaded with thirty-four 100 pound GP's and the High Squadron with six 500 pound GP's plus six M17 IB's. At 0630 hours the mission was delayed by 90 minutes, which is reflected in the taxi and takeoff times shown above. All operational aircraft were airborne by 0956. Flying Control noted: "Very good takeoff." However, at 0958 hours the Group "hack", "Paris Express", collided with an English truck near the end of a runway and damaged its left wing and aileron. he 401st made up the 94th Combat Wing "A" Group on this mission. The Group's target was a German army barracks just across the Rhine River, which was attacked visually with excellent results. No enemy aircraft were encountered, and flak was described as "meager and inaccurate". One 401st ship received minor battle damage. The two spares returned early as unneeded, and the remaining operational aircraft had all landed by 1523 hours.
