"Lt. R.W. Joy of San Francisco, CA., co-pilot of Boeing B-17 "Hells Angels", relaxes after returning to his base in England after completing the 28th mission. He is a member of the 303rd Bomb Group. 15 June 1943." - Lt Ripley W. Joy was originally the copilot on the Capt Irl E. Baldwin' crew that flew B-17F Hell's Angels (41-24577) from the USA to England. He was upgraded to pilot on 04 June 43. Completed his 25 mission tour on 25 July 1943 and returned to the USA. Ripley W. Joy was killed in an aircraft explosion in September 1943. He was ferrying a Catalina to the east coast on his return from a 30 day leave in San Francisco.
