Ripley William Joy

- Lt Ripley W. Joy was originally the copilot on the Capt Irl E. Baldwin' crew that flew B-17F Hell's Angels (41-24577) from the USA to England. He was upgraded to pilot on 04 June 43. Completed his 25 mission tour on 25 July 1943 and returned to the USA. Ripley W. Joy was killed in an aircraft explosion in September 1943. He was ferrying a Catalina to the east coast on his return from a 30 day leave in San Francisco.

Ripley W. Joy was assigned to the 303rd Bomb Group / 358th Bomb Squadron. Starting as a Co-Pilot, he was upgraded to Pilot on 4 June 1943. After completing 25 missions with the 303rd, he was sent back to the US. He was assigned as a pilot in the 21st Ferrying Group/73rd Ferrying Squadron at Palm Springs Army Air Base in California. On 31 October 1943, he was Pilot of B-24 Liberator #42-64013 when it suddenly stalled, started spinning and crashed 5 miles northeast of Fostoria, Ohio. Ripley Joy, Co-Pilot Lt Harry O. Morris Jr and Corporal Erulio F. Angelosanti were also killed in the accident.
