Established as a provisional unit at Bovingdon on 27 August 1942, and equipped with B-17Es transferred from the 92nd Bomb Group.



From the Autumn of 1942 provided training for bomber crews to assess them of the state of their training and to provide instruction on equipment and procedures relevant to operating in the UK, and flight assembly and formation procedures pertaining to the 8th Air Force. On three occasions 11 CCRC provided aircraft and personnel to support combat missions.



On 16 August 1943 the unit was reorganised and provisionally titled the 2900th Combat Crew Replacement Centre Group (Provisional).



Redesignated No 1 Combat Crew Replacement Center on 12 November 1943
