Detailed History

In the church there is a plaque erected by the people of Rumburgh to commemorate the crew of B24 "Nature's Nymph," 42-51116. The Bomber was of the 446th Bomb Group, 705th Bomb Squadron. It crashed on 7 June 1944, returning from a mission at Alencon, northwestern France. The plaque is not quite accurate; one crewmember who died is not named, and at least one name is misspelled.
