Detailed History

Lisnabreeny American Military Cemetery, near Belfast was one of three temporary cemeteries for fallen American personnel during the Second World War.

148 servicemen were buried there, until 1948 when the cemetery was officially closed. With the exception of those who's families opted for repatriation, the remains of the fallen were transferred to Cambridge American Cemetery in Madingley.

In 2013 the site was re-opened as a memorial garden. A granite stone commemorates the names of the 148 fallen who were once buried there.
