Killed in Action (KIA) Hit by flak over France, plane was returning to base to land, as pilot, Johnson had all the crew bail out. He was badly injured, the plane went down in Hamstreet, England. All the crew got out. His usual plane was 42-31161 'Spare Parts' but it was out of service for repairs. The tail number on the crash photo of his plane was 42-31719. This was his 25th mission and would have completed his tour.
