Walter Edward Truemper
Military ROLL OF HONOURAfter 8AF 226, Oschersleben, attempted to fly and land aircraft to save crew members who were too badly wounded to bail out. Died when B-17 #42-31763 'Ten Horsepower' crashed, along with three other crew members, including S/Sgt. Archie Mathies, who who also remained in the aircraft and who was awarded the MOH concurrently. Able-bodied crew members had bailed out over the base and survived.
