Crew Number 69. Vernon was working for Lockheed Aircraft Co. in California before being drafted in February 1943. After training in radio and gunnery he joined his crew at Tampa and a year later they flew the Atlantic to join the Group at Framlingham. He flew on 35 combat missions - one of them to aid the Warsaw Uprising, refuelling at Poltava. Discharged in September 1945 he worked in construction and was a member of the River City Barbershop Quartet for 30 years.
