Robert Rowan Megchelsen
Military"Iowans of the Mighty Eighth", Chapter 26 "Biographies", by Charles D Taylor.
Robert was helping on the family farm when he was drafted in January 1943. After training as a gunner he crewed up and left for England on Thanksgiving Day 1943 joining the Group at Bassingbourn as a replacement crew. He flew 30 combat missions on 'Lassie Come Home' being badly damaged on two missions over Berlin. After the war he was employed as a postman.
