Robert J Manahl
Military"Iowans of the Mighty Eighth", Chapter 26 "Biographies", by Charles D Taylor.
He enlisted in May 1942, trained as a mechanic and initially worked on an experimental 'glide' bomb. In April 1943 he sailed from Halifax on board the 'Louis Pasteur' with some 4000 Australian and Canadian servicemen -besides the Americans- bound for Liverpool. Assigned to the 384th BG at Grafton Underwood he worked as a mechanic until VE Day after which he was sent to France to remove armaments from B-17s and install seating for troop transport.
He afterwards worked for the US Postal Service.
