"Iowans of the Mighty Eighth", Chapter 22 "Biographies", by Charles D Taylor.
Robert enlisted in June 1942 and in October 1943 joined the 20th FG at Kingscliffe as a draughtsman for Squadron Intelligence. His job was to make maps and charts for the pilots and he also painted names and slogans on the individual aircraft. Post war he resumed his education, becoming a university instructor, business owner and artist.
