Raymond P Warner
MilitaryLt. Raymond P. "Jack" Warner was the navigator in his assigned B-24D, Euroclydon The Storm, 42-40612, which crashed on Operation Tidal Wave, the bombing mission to the oil refineries at Ploesti, Romania, while he was on TDY to the 9th Air Force in North Africa. Lt. Warner was badly wounded bailing out of, Euroclydon, from so low, but survived his injuries and was taken prisoner (POW). He credits his good friend and bombardier, "Red" Franks, for pushing him out of their plane first, before Red jumped out of the nose gear door opening, therefor, giving Warner the edge that saved his life, even though he was badly injured, too, from hitting the ground with a partially opened chute. For his bravery and sacrifice in saving Jack Warner, Red Franks gave his life for his friend. 1 Aug 1943.
