Major Ralph Saltman commanding officer the 94th Bomb Group B-17 Flying Fortresses inside a Nissen hut at Bury St. Edmunds (Rougham). Handwritten caption on reverse: '94BG - Photographed Rougham.' Printed caption on reverse: 'An epic battle of the skies took place when Flying Fortresses made their recent raid on Kiel. Squadrons of German suicide fighters attacked, scores of which were shot down. These pictures taken at a U.S. Air Force Station[sic] show some of the members of a Bomber [Caption says Wing, but this has been struck out by the censor and replaced with 'Formation'] which bore the brunt of the attack by the fighters. 14/6/43. O.P.S. - Major Ralph Saltman of Maplewood, New Jersey, who led the [Caption says Wing, but this has been struck out by the censor and replaced with 'Formation'] which bore the brunt of the attack by the German fighters.'
