Norman R Wexelman
MilitaryKilled in Action on 13 April 1945, near the Rhine River. His aircraft was flying in formation with five other Skytrains when they encountered low cloud and bad weather. Forest H Hickman, a pilot in a nearby aircraft reported that the clouds were so low, they were covering the tops of hills in the area.
Wexelman's aircraft was last seen flying in formation by Hickman when he climbed rapidly to avoid a hill, after climbing above the overcast cloud layer, the aircraft could not be seen and radio contact could not be made. Another pilot in the flight reported seeing a plume of black smoke close to where Hickman last saw the aircraft.
All of the crew and passengers were killed in action.
