Following the attack onr Pearl Harbour Nancy got a job in the security dept. of a Sperry Defense plant. Later seeing an advertisement for Red Cross Volunteers she applied and just two weeks later was on board the 'Queen Elizabeth' bound for England. She was eventually assigned to a Field Club at Base Air Depot 2 at Wharton. The Club's facilities operated from 11am to 11 pm and included billiards, parties, cards, dances and a snack bar; all aimed at relaxation for the serving men. She met her future husband - a test pilot - at the base and they were married when the war in Europe ended. They made their home in Waterloo where they had four children and operated a lawn and garden business. Nancy remained active in the Red Cross ; among her most prized possessions an invitation to tea with King George and Queen Elizabeth.
