Object Number - UPL 40452 - Polish Cross of Valor translation of citation

A US volunteer who entered WWII as an RAF Polish 302 Squadron fighter pilot sometime before the US entered the war in 1941. He was good friends with fellow US volunteer Michael J. Murayda who was also in the RAF Polish 302 squadron. Both eventually transferred into the USAAF 56th Fighter Group, 61st Squadron on November 18th 1944 assigned to the Schilling Group as Flight Officers and eventually both being promoted as Second Lieutenants. Both were also awarded the Polish Cross of Valor with Winski receiving the Cross with a Bar on June 15th 1945. Second Lieutenant Winski received this honor posthumously as he had been shot down sometime in early 1945.
