Lon Emert Jackman Jr

Jackman was an actor before he joined the USAAF in 1942. He served as a co-pilot aboard one of the four B-17 Flying Fortresses which buzzed the Yankee Stadium during the 1943 World Series.
Jackman died on 20 December 1943 in B-17 #42-39764 'Santa Anna' during a mission to Bremen, after his aircraft was attacked by German fighter aircraft. According to eyewitnesses, Jackman was hit in the stomach by a 20mm shell and took his own life using his pistol before the aircraft exploded.
