Lt. Leo George Travis was a B-24 bombardier, assigned to the 8th Air Force, the 389th Bomb Group, the Sky Scorpions, and the 564th Bombardment Squadron in Britain, temporarily detached (TDY) to the 9th Air Force, USAAF, in Benghazi, Libya, North Africa, to take part in Operation Tidal Wave, the large bombing mission on the oil refineries at Ploesti, Romania, flying aboard the B-24D Liberator, 42-40746, named, Ole Irish, (ETD). He died non battle (DNB) in the U.S. on June 8,1945.
