Lee McDonald

Military

On mission to Frankfurt on 29 Jan 1944, B-17G #42-31436 collided with another B-17 (#41-31151 of 96th BG/337th BS) and crashed near Monthermé, France. Prisoner of War (POW). Lee McDonald managed to evade for a time, being helped by the Underground. Like his crewmates Louis Koren and Fred Huebner, he was helped by local Resistance leader Georges POIRIER in Charleville-Mézières, France. He and the others were captured later in a wave of arrests.
