Died

Severna Park, MD 23 December 2000 Joseph Jacob "Joe" Hanzook Sr., 78, died Dec. 23, 2000 of Parkinson's disease at FutureCare/Chesapeake of Arnold. A native of Baltimore, he had lived in Pasadena for 15 years and Severna Park for more than 30 years. He graduated from Glen Burnie High School and from Johns Hopkins University in 1949 with a degree in industrial engineering. He was a sales engineer with Honeywell, Tate Engineering and Diebold. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps as a second lieutenant and was shot down during a raid over Hanover, Germany, in 1944. He spent 18 months as a prisoner of war at Stalag Luft I on the Baltic Sea. Among his decorations was the Purple Heart. He was an elder and usher at Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church of Severna Park and a past member of the Severn River Swim Club. His hobbies were boating, crafts and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Lillian, whom he married in 1945; one son; three daughters; four sisters and eight grandchildren.
