"I am the grandson of the best friend that I ever had, Lt. Col. John H. Emch. He flew 21 missions in B-17s as a Co-Pilot with the 401st bomb group, 613th squadron. He was shot down on 6-Nov-44 (mission 167) over occupied Holland in B-17 42-107009 'Lady Jane”'. He was held as a POW at Stalag Luft III until being liberated by Gen. Patton & his men. He served as a pilot in the Air Force until retirement in 1966. He passed away from lung cancer in 1985 but there is not a day that goes by that I don’t think of him with fond memories."
