John Allen Taylor
MilitaryTaylor was a 'Special Vehicle Operator' with MT Section, 82nd Fighter Squadron, 78th Fighter Group, Duxford, from April 1943 - August 1945, starting out as a private and ending up as a sergeant.
He initially trained as an aircraft mechanic and was certified as such by USAAF in 1942 prior to deployment to UK. However, on arrival he was assigned to MT duties (his uniform carries the mechanics trade badge). He was part of the self styled 'gas gang' for Duxford, driving the refuellers on the airfield and filling up the aircraft. He also distributed fuel for other reasons round site, transferred fuel from main store to refuellers, carried out mechanical repairs, general MT duties etc.
