Harvey Eakes had enlisted before the entry of the US into the war. Joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and flew some missions before being transferred to the USAAF – 78th Fighter Group/82nd Fighter Squadron. He was piloting P-47 #42-75602 on strafing attacks on German airfields in Germany on 5 April 1944. His Thunderbolt was shot down by Flak over Saint-Omer, France and crashed near Tatinghem. Killed In Action (KIA). The Missing Air Crew Report is mentioned as being MACR 3621, but no trace to be found…
