An aviation cadet in 1942 Burdekin was first assigned to Instructor School at Maxwell Field Alabama. He later formed up with his B-24 crew and was to fly on 33 combat missions with them; 10 as lead crew. He afterwards was briefly an airline pilot then for many years with General Electric etc. retiring in 1982.
