George Forrest Clark

George went to college at Ames before enlisting 10 September 1942, trained as a gunner and joined the 389thBG at Hethel in England. On his 19th mission they were shot down by flak and crashed near St Lo on 7/25/44 in B-24 42-50478 'Miss Shirley'. Bailed out and captured right after but was able to escape some two weeks later from a moving train and hid out on a French farm until US forces arrived.
He went back to the family farm, married and had four children.
