He was a farmer, carpenter and implement mechanic before being drafted into the Army Air Corps and sent to Teletype Maintenance School. Deployed to the ETO April 4 1943 he was with the group at Fowlmere until returning to the USA in October 1945. He was afterwards an auto mechanic.
