Ellison Miles
MilitaryEllison Miles, from Liberty, Texas, joined the 92nd Bomb Group based at Podington in 1943, flying 25 missions in B-17 “Woolaroc”, including raids on shipyards at Kiel and the ball-bearing factories at Schweinfurt.
Following his active service, Ellison was assigned to the public relations office of the Eighth Air Force in London. He completed several months touring England, Scotland and Iceland before returning to the U.S. in March 1944.
After the war Mr. Miles became a world leader in the production of oil and gas and a dedicated philanthropist.
He was awarded: the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and a Presidential Unit Citation.
