Revisions
He did not rotate back to ZI with the 489 BG in11/44 (Carl Hillstrom's crew 26, PFF) to B-29s because he went DNIF for shooting his .45 through his hand. He needed more sorties so was sent to B-24s in Tibenham. No one knew of his status for years. His sister wrote my father (Carl Hillstrom) in 1946 asking for info. Even the 489th historian, Charlie Freudenthal, could find nothing on Doug (1990s). A Google search on 10/2018 directed me to this site (Dave Hillstrom). Carl said that Doug was an excellent "Mickey" but always had to be bailed out of some trouble.
