Dorthy Nichols served in the American Red Cross. A graduate of Wichita University, she married fellow Wichita alum Stanley Diamond, in the summer of 1943. In July 1944, Stanley died when his B-17 was hit by another aircraft and broke into pieces over the North Sea, near Lowestoft, Suffolk, UK.
