MilitaryNavigator, Disbrow crew. 381st BG, 535th BS, 8th AF. Shot down 17 August 1943 in B-17 #42-3225 'Chug-a-Lug Lu-Lu'. Mission #20 "Black Tuesday" to the ball bearing works at Schweinfurt, Germany. MACR 378. Lt Jones was wounded by 20mm fire in the nose of the plane. After bailing out, he landed near T/Sgt Moore. His injuries were too severe so he sent a message via a Belgian boy to T/Sgt Moore stating his intention to turn himself in to the Germans. Prisoner of War at Stalag Luft III and Stalag XIIID.
