While serving as Bombardier/Toggelier in B-17G 43-37613 on 16-Aug-44 the aircraft was attacked by German figthers and received severe damage. The pilot managed to fly the aircraft back to England and landed at Boreham, Essex, UK. He was uninjured and returned to duty.
